To get Win 8.1 to install we went to Sentinel's site
and used their installer to installer the right drivers. We brought up task manager, stopped all tasks that had anything to do with HASP/Sentinel. Then we desintalled Sentinel and the Bernina software from an Admin acct. We ran Norton to clean registry. We also use CCleaner to clean up leftover. Then we were able to do the Window 8.1 install. I think the real culprit here was the older HASP drivers being incompatible.
To get all the Bernina and Sentinel products working - We logged into the machine as an administrator (even though other accounts had administrative permission this turned out to be crucial (see next para). We uninstalled the Bernina Embroidery software. We did uninstall the sentinel drivers as part of the Bernina software then checked to assure no processes were still running and nothing was left over and cleaned up the registry with Norton. We rebooted. We reloaded the Bernina software including patches for Win8.1. Instead of using their Win 8 Sentinel HASP patch we went directly to Sentinel and used theirs.
We ran into a diff problem earlier in this ordeal as the Bernina software comes with a version of Corel, but it had not loaded. Turns out even though we had given administrative permissions during the Bernina install, it was not able to pass them to Corel. So after we uninstalled all of that we changed users to me and then the install went fine including the Sentinel HASP Patch. Hope this helps.
