panasonic has just announced a new version of its portable digital music player that it's billing as the smallest audio player available that supports removable media. the sv-sd80 uses sd (securedigital) media cards and comes with an included 64 mb sd card that holds up to 64 minutes of music, or up to 129 minutes if you don't mind some extra compression.
the rechargeable ni-mh battery along with one aaa alkaline battery gives you up to 50 hours of playing time. the sv-sd80 has a suggested retail price of us$329.95 and comes with a usb sd reader/writer and software on cd-rom to help manage the music downloads. it supports mp3, wma, and aac encoded music and has a two line, 10-character lcd display.

the dimensions of the sv-sd80 are: 1-11/16″ wide, 1-3/4″ high, 11/16″ deep, and it weighs a mere 0.92 ounces without a battery installed.
read more at the press release on yahoo! or check out the earlier and slightly larger model, the sv-sd75. so far, we were not able to locate additional info on the sv-sd80 at panasonic.com.
rob's opinion
i guess the question here is whether such a small device with removable media is necessary. perhaps it should just be even smaller and come with 64 mb of flash memory built into it along with a usb port (or something faster–firewire or usb 2) for grabbing music from a pc. certainly, supporting removable media is a nice touch, but if all you care about is the size of the unit, supporting removable media has to add some girth.
if anyone recalls our item on intel's plans to start removing the floppy drive from default consumer configurations, i mentioned that compactflash would make a good floppy alternative. however, compactflash cards are significantly larger than sd cards. can both exist in the same market? crucial.com is now selling compactflash memory cards so it's starting to throw its (substantial) weight behind that format. however, at the same time, palm has sd card support in its pdas to help keep the form factor to the minimum.
one thing about sd cards is that they are memory-only. with compactflash, the module is big enough so that you can put in an add-on card for a modem or networking capabilities. perhaps both do have a place in the world of devices.
in any case, panasonic's new sv-sd80 certainly will fit the bill for those who want to strap an mp3 player on when going for a run or to the gym and don't want to worry about its bulk getting in the way. it sounds pretty sweet to me.

nice(2:48pm est wed oct 10 2001) sounds sweet !!!! how about posting a link that would show a picture of it so we can see what it looks like ? wish the storage was bigger though. 129 minutes just isn't enough music for me. – by gurugeek
picture of the sd-sv80(2:58pm est wed oct 10 2001) the picture of the player can be found here (its their japanese site): finally a mp3 unit that is substantially smaller than a minidisc unit. – by imadork

too bad(3:31pm est wed oct 10 2001) that the same time all the best mp3 hardware is coming out, riaa and everyone is trying to bully the format out of existence. phat player though. – by trebomb
just like before(3:43pm est wed oct 10 2001) when digital cameras first became popular, every camera makers was trying to one up each other by producing a camera smaller then the previous generation, until consumers started balking at the problem that a camera that can fit in your shirt pocket is more cumbersome then a larger one. you still get some of these rediculously small digital cameras out there, but mostly, digital cameras have adopted a normal size (similar to their analog cousins). the moral was, just because you can produce a tiny camera doesn't mean that is what consumers want. same with digital audio players. they are just making them small because they can, and soon consumers will question their size and start demanding more attention to detail and design and ergonomics rather then simply touting they have the smallest device available. – by johnny
sd oh well…(4:02pm est wed oct 10 2001) neat player – only problem is it uses sd… and i boycott anything that uses sd or other protection-enabling technologies… keep that camel's nose out of my tent – i'm not gonna give any manufacturer who supports that oppressive crap an “in” with me… and for those of you who believe that because it supports mp3 and sd – wake up – because at some point they'll add some 'functionality' (like a converter to sd) and remove mp3 abilities… and you won't be able to downgrade… – by nice but i'll pass
don't sd slots take mmc too?(4:30pm est wed oct 10 2001) i may be wrong, but aren't sd and mmc cards electronically compatible? but mmc is missing the encryption aspects, right? if they are compatible, the move to the smaller removable format is welcome. what girth does sd/mmc add? very little. these cards are about as big as five us-postage-sized stamps stacked. i've enjoyed mmc in my casio pda. – by who else?

smalls cf mp3 player?(7:21am est thu oct 11 2001) so what's the current champeeen of the cf card world in mp3/wma players? what's the smallest out there right now? the panasonic is nice, but i've got a ton (figuratively) of cf cards for my cp990 digicam and ipaq… yes, i can play music on my ipaq, but i'm thinking of an xmas present for my wife… – by mark
sd vs mmc (11:26am est thu oct 11 2001) i thought i read somewhere that if the device was sd compatable, then any copy protection would be detected by the device, regardless of whether the file was on the sd card or on an mmc card. – by bowlingrod
i'd like to see…(12:49pm est thu oct 11 2001) a compactflash sm adapter! i know , but i have heard so little about it, i wonder if it works well (and with 64mb/128mb sm cards). if so, couldn't someone make a cf-sd/mmc adapter, too? i'd like to see a cf drive replace a floppy. hell, what would a 8mb (or whatever the smallest/cheapest) cf card cost? just my $0.02 worth,
i have a…(6:21am est sat oct 13 2001) sv-sd75, the “old” model, and it's done me well since i bought it a few months ago. the only complaint i have is the real jukebox program it uses. it's really damn slow if you want to do aac files. why would i want to do that? easy, because it essentially doubles your storage space. aac also sounds better and is more compact than wma. um, call me superficial, but the thing i like about the sv-sd75 is….the neck strap! no, really, i've had 2 larger mp3 players and it was always a pain to get it out of your pocket or whereever, and sometimes i'd drop them (yikes!) it's really convenient to “wear” it. the -80 should have a “clip on” or “strap” to make it more convenient to use, but overall, the only “upgrade” i see is in the size and the battery life. the -75 is kinda a power hog, killing a single aaa in 3 hrs. or so. i would probably be tempted if they threw in 64mb extra on-board memory, for a total of 128mb w/ the sd, giving you potentially 4 hrs of cd quality music! – by sd cardboy

sdmi phase 1 or 2?(2:09am est tue dec 11 2001) i have been looking into this player 'cause the size make it way cool. with sd discs being proposed to be 2 gigs by early next year (official compatibility is up to 256 right now), battery life, etc…. nice! the only problem is with the sdmi stuff that noone seems to know what's up. i talked to some saleperson down in akihabara (tokyo) and by her description, it looks to adhere to the phase 1 specs to the letter. you do the whole check-in, check-out thing, with being able to copy it a couple times over. she did state that the original file on your hd is not altered, but a header encryption of sorts is attached to the uploaded file. the original file is playable while in checked-out status. you can play all legacy mp's too. this almost made me buy this thing, until i read the phase 2 definitions where eventually, if it goes through, then you would not be able to listen to either phase 2 encoded cd's or upgrade and not be able to listen to your mp3 archive. either choice not too appealing for the price of the player. does anyone know if phase 2 is still in the works, as there doesn't seem to be anything posted on the net past early year 2000. – by sdmisucks
panasonic(4:06am est thu jan 03 2002) i live here in japan and last week i bought this new panasonic svsd80 and i have yet to be able to transfer any music files to it! first , i had to reinstall my o.s> (i was using win 2000…but they only have support for 98) then i installed their software (realjukebox and usb reader) then i inserted a new sd card 128mb into a reader and formatted it, then when i went into real juke box and tried to transfer the files as aac , i get the message no media detected…even though it is there and shows up as a removable drive!!!!! this thing is driving me bonkers !!!! and to top it off….the panasonic web site is not responding!!!! !!!!!!! they sold this crap and technical “support is non existant”!!!!!!!!!!if anybody knows of a web site with a “how to” or troubleshooting page ….please let me know…. – by stranded in japan
stranded in japan(1:07pm est tue feb 19 2002) just a thought, but did you try using the original card? perhaps there is some compatibility issue with the 128 mb, since it was designed to use the included 64mb card. – by tryin to be helpful
stranded in japan(9:22pm est tue apr 16 2002) i've tried panasonic global support a couple times in english & just tried in japanese. no responses so far. i tried the us support, but they only sent a letter asking me to contact the support centre in the country of purchase/use. did you buy the player in japan? did you get english drivers/software or can you install the japanese ones on an english os? thinking about picking one up if i can get the supporting software, use it 'till phase 2 kicks in, and get something else then. – by sdmisucks

stranded in japan(10:45am est thu may 23 2002) i got a sd 75 player wich i bought in japan with the sd jukebox as “japanese only version”! but when i tried it at home there was no problem installing and running it, the only thing is if you got the older version of the jukebox like 2.2 you need the japanese sd jukebox 2.4 update to run it under 2k or xp! and if you're bored by those ??? you have to install the japanese language package and set japanese as the default language for unknown region codes! i so far are very satisfied with the player! – by kryo

sd75 (6:58am est tue aug 20 2002) i bought an sd75 here in europe 1 year ago, and i think the design is so much beter and cooler than the sd80. sd80 is smaller, but it looks so, average… that's something intel or rio would make, not panasonic. i used win 2000, and i'm on win xp now and the program runs flawlessly. with the new drivers i downloaded from there site, it boosts real juke box performance making it 5 or more times faster transfering mp3 files. (i wonder why the reviers never update there reviews with this information) it's just like coping the file in explorer. takes seconds to transfer an mp3 file. the only anoying thing is everytime i start realjukebox a screen apears asking me to update the program (if you do, you loose the sd manager integrity) . for people having problems with the sd reader and using hubs or computers with 4 usb ports, you must connect the sd reader to the higher voltage ones (main 2 usb ports), and it doesn't works with most usb hubs (cause of low voltage output) try checking that “sdmisucks”. great player, buy a custo shirt and it's like you came out of the panasonic magazine, stylish ) – by spacejaguar

software?(2:32am est wed nov 27 2002) hey, im with keen…is there anywhere out there that i can download a program that will transfer wma or mp3 to sd audio. the realone player needs a plugin from the cd that came with the player. unfortunatley i have the japanese player which doesn't include software… if someone, preferrably in australia but doesnt really matter, would send me a burnt copy of the software i'll pay them for it, (this is hardly dodgy, i have paid my 200,000 yen for it already!) contact me if interested: carlscott1982@msn.com alternatively someone could post it on their website….:) – by carl
sd jukebox 3(10:54am est thu dec 19 2002) carl, i've done more research, and apparently, the software is available in japan, as the sd jukebox. the software is sold seperately, with two versions: one containing an sd memory card reader, and one with just the software. if you can read japanese, maybe this link will clarify things: i havent bought the software yet, i'm still hoping someone will be able to help me get the english version of it. have you been able to get your hands on the software? – by keen
aha, sd jukebox 3(3:18am est tue dec 31 2002) nice work keen, i checked out the page. we can't buy the software from the web-page, only from stores in japan. anyway, i did manage to get the english software, which may help you out. although, the catch is, i think it will only work with the usb reader/writer, so if you have the pc card adapter with the pointless win 98 driver like me, you're still screwed, (as panasonic never updated the driver). however, if you've got the usb thing you can avoid the 'no storage detected' bug by downloading the usbrw driver on the english web site. send me a mail and i'll hook you up with the software. – by carl

real jukebox is not an option.(10:12pm est tue jul 29 2003) i ask for help. i have owned an sv-sd80 for some time now, but i will not use real jukebox. i have a 7 in 1 reader (i use most of the common flash memory formats on a daily basis) and several 256mb cards. i am looking for a small, compact and quick program that will allow me to just simply drag and drop files onto the card via the explorer view without any extra hassle. on a whim, i tried the real jukebox software on a friends computer, and it crashed it 4 times while trying to install. afterwards it would just lock up the computer. there has to be a better way of using an sd player. either that, or i give it to a friend who is a glutton for punishment. this is a wonderful product, brought down by the absolute worst software on the market. if panasonic insists on using real jukebox, then i will insist on another mp3 player. one that can perhaps, oh i don't know…

finally working! (11:56pm est wed feb 11 2004) okay… i finally got everything working yesterday. i will tell you what i did. first i live in japan and i have a mobile phone that uses the panasonic system to transfer music to my sd card, so even though it is a different product since you are just dealing with a sd card only it is essentially the same. i have an sd card made by toshiba so that part does not matter. i installed the music software that bonchlord posted earlier, although it was not as easy to install as his instructions said! thanks anyway though! next i bought a panasonic sd card reader. i bought this from amazon.co.jp (this is the japanese version but it has english too) it was 3000 yen which is about 30 bucks us. i don’t see why you couldn’t get it shipped from japan and still save a lot compared to the 70 bucks they are asking in the us. plugged it in rebooted my system and it was that easy. questions? new2nagoya@hotmail.com – by mike
panasonic usb r/w(11:51am est tue feb 17 2004) i installed bonchlord's music software ok. a day later, my panasonic sd r/w (with panasonic sd card) arrives. installed this but sd-jukebox cant find the panasonic r/w. the instructions with the r/w talk about a special usb driver is required if using for sd audio. i go to the panasonic site for this driver, type in the r/w s/n as requested but it doesn't recognise it. what a bloody carry-on! has anybody got a s/n that does work? – by john w.

!! pcmcia panasonic sd r/w success !!(4:38pm est wed may 26 2004) after some hours of “blind-browsing” in japanese only pages, i found a driver that put my panasonic pcmcia sd reader/writer card (pn.bn-sdabpu) to work with both “sd-jukebox 4.0” and realone player!!! (it was working fine in windows explorer before, but wasn't detected neither by sd-jukebox nor by realoneplayer). ah, and now i can have both: the usb and pcmcia drivers working at the same time!!! don't know if it will work for non-panasonic pc cards or notebooks built-in sd drivers…. good luck for you all!!! and feedback this forum !!! if it asks for a serial number, give the last 6 numbers of yours after the p3 (even if your card serial number doesn't begin with p3). it will open another window, click on the large grey button on the bottom, and the download should start. here is the links: good luck, – by renato mariz

jukebox 3(5:09am est sat may 29 2004) blonchlord's crack: for those of you having problems, go to his site: and follow the instructions. when you get to step 2: “right click and save target as”, save the file as literally “setup.zip”. once downloaded, unzip it, and then continue with his instructions on the site. hope this helps clear up some confusion. also, i have had the sd av30 for over a year and have never had any problems with any of the functions, including the mp3 player aspect, and have never had any mp3 blocked that i have tried to put on it. just read through the manual that comes with the book, and it will tell you all you need to know for putting mp3 on the sd av30. the only way you can get this to work is by doing it through sd jukebox, first by importing the desired music into jukebox, and then by exporting it from jukebox to the av30. if you have more questions, email me at cjperisho@yahoo.com. i can only help you out with the av30, since that is what i've got. – by c'sho

player sa1 files(7:48pm est wed jun 09 2004) please help! i want to be able to play the same sd music cards on my pda as what my mrs plays on her panasonic portable sd player (sv-sd50). the panasonic reads and plays these sa1 files fine converted from aac, mp3 or wma by the real player plugin), but i cannot find any pc or ppc software that will also play these files when converted to sa1?? if panasonic uses the correct (official) file format for sd audio (sa1 etc) – why is nobody else using it?, and why is there no software support to play these files on any other platform?? – you can't even play them on pc using real one? the plugin enables you to encode from any audio format onto the sd card which plays fine on the portable sd player – but you cannot however play these files back through the pc?!?. is there any way around this? – i.e either get the ppc to play the sa1 files or the less likely approach of getting the panasonic sd player to play aac or mp3 directly? any ideas would be a great help as we're about to leave to travel around south america and we can't really afford the memory to duplicate our music? regards

sv-sdxx info & request(4:12pm est tue sep 28 2004) this little bit of info may be useful to some of you. in return you may be able to answer a question i have. please note the information has been gained by talking to someone at a support centre in britain. on-line support turned out to be a waste of time. sd-jukebox v4 is indeed up there with the worst software ever. it either crashes completely on windows xp or provides no information why some mp3's fail to import (apparently due to a variable bit rate problem). additionally if you have a store of mp3's the software encodes these to a format the sv-sdxx can use (for copyright purposes) so doubling the space required for each track on your disks, i.e. the original mp3 + encoded copy. also i've found non-admin windows xp users can't run the software. the sd-jukebox software, i have been told by tech support, was created as it stores the encoded music so making check outs to the sd cards quicker. realplayer doesn't do this as it encodes the original mp3's each time they are checked out. but at least the track is only stored once. apparently to get realplayer to work you now have to buy the realplayer v2.1 software + panasonic plug-in (part no. vff0148-s). you can then upgrade realplayer to the latest version. panasonic stopped shipping realplayer because customers complained about the amount of time check outs took. my question is, has anyone used the latest version of the realplayer successfully, with the panasonic plug-in? how long does a check out take given a 5mb mp3 on a system with 1gb ram, usb2, 2.8ghz cpu & ide133 drives? my guess is it's quicker on modern systems than it was when it originally shipped. sd-jukebox v4 is apparently easier to use if you don't mind not being able to import all of your mp3's, if you don't mind it crashing, if you don't mind that non-admin users on windows xp can't use it & if you don't mind doubling the amount of disk space used per track. it is however great for copying from cd. – by ralfy
does no one read?(5:54pm est tue sep 28 2004) read some of the previous posts. realone works perfectly and is 100% free. check out doesn't seem to take very long and you can choose to convert the file format and bit rate during check out. realone imported all of my old mp3s perfectly. i get approx. 500 songs per 1mb sd card using 64kbps aac. – by duh

i found the way to transfor music into sd card.(5:47am est fri oct 15 2004) hi all i found the way to resolve the problem. but you must have a panasonic card reader first. it's no way to use others. remember don't connect the card reader to your computer now. then you can download the lateest realplayer 10. or you can use realone player, it's work ,too. after you finishing the install process, do not try to add device from realplayer. because it's not work. i compare the whole system and get all files we need. (include plug-in files and card reader driver.) just copy all file to the path. now you can connect your card reader and launch realplayer. and you will find the device is already there. but the total size of files are 4.5 mb.

real(1:43pm est thu jun 02 2005) not had any problems with cards up to 1gb so far. bamboozled – have you formatted the card using the sd software? downloading the realone/jukebox update never worked, hence the seperate patches ( has one for the sd85, but it may be worth a shot as they're near identical machines) – by freneticvirus
real jukebox(10:12am est sat jun 04 2005) i downloaded the sd card formattting software from the panasonic website, and used it to format all of my panasonic sd cards. i've tried using the panasonic sd usb reader/writer and also the panasonic sd pc card adapter i have. neither of them to any effect. i installed realone player v10.5, and could even get the sv-sd80 device showing on the burner/device page. however, whatever format i converted to or, didn't covert from just transferred, it wouldn't play on the actual sv-sd80 just kept saying not 'sdaudio'. so i went through the both versions of instruction as per lizl4shizl's advice, installed real jukebox, addded the wma plug-in, added the general panasonic device, but all it ever shows is 'no storage detected'. cheers for sd85 plug-in, tried that and unfortunately, real jukebox never shows any devices other than the standard cd creator by roxio and the general panasonic device. i'm beginning to think real jokebox, the sv-sd80 are about as much use as a paper kettle which reminds me, time for a cuppa! maybe i'm missing some critical step but just can't see it for trying. by the way, i liked your piece about norman. very amusing. – by bamboozled

format(10:25pm est mon jun 06 2005) format the card from within realplayer. don't use garbage sd cards because they won't work. the panasonic players are picky and don't work with crappy sd cards like lexars and others. get a good high-speed sd card and you'll be all set. mine also converts from aac, mp3 or wma without problem. just be sure to convert to mp3 and not to aac or wma when you transfer songs onto the card. – by none

panasonic sd reader/writer(2:54am est mon aug 15 2005) wow, this thread goes all the way back to 2001. i came across a panasonic sv-sd50 my brother that he was going to throw away, his dog had chewed up the cable on the panasonic sd card reader/writer. i did some research and came across the information here. from what i have read the panasonic sd jukebox and realplayer software will not work unless you have a panasonic sd reader/writer. there are quite a few different part numbers of the panasonic sd reader/writer. the ones i have come across are bn-sdcape, bn-sdcapu, bn-sdcaae, bn-sdcaak, bn-sdcbae, bn-sdceae, bn-sdusb2e, and rfa1869. here is a url from panasonic's web page in japan. it list the sd reader/writers. so far they support up to 1 gigabyte of sd ram. scroll down to reader/writer, others. if that link doesn't work just go to amazon.co.jp and search for bn-sdcgp3. – by cobalt_60
sd-jukebox 4.0(2:56am est mon aug 15 2005) i came across sd-jukebox version 4.0 and it works with my panasonic usb reader/writer bn-sdcbae no problem. i can format the sd card using the jukebox program. there is also an option to select the portable device you wish to use under options, sd settings. it list the following portable devices sv-sd8*/sd50, sv-as10, sv-av50/av35/av30, j-sh51/sh52/sh53, sv-sd75, sv-sd70, and other. i transfered over three 256 kbps mp3's over to the sd card. sd-jukebox doesn't let you convert mp3's from your hard drive to aac or wma. it just transfers the mp3's as they are over to the sd card. the only way to transfer songs as aac or wma would be for me to rip the songs from a regular music cd. when i played one of the songs on the sv-sd50, it showed up as a 256 kbps mp3 and it played fine! i just need to get a larger sd card. the 64 megabyte sd card that came with the player is way too small. i hope this helps some of you find a panasonic sd reader/writer, so you can use your mp3 players. – by cobalt_60
sv audio & supported sd card size(3:13am est mon aug 15 2005) just noticed on the url i posted that it has a chart up top for sd audio devices and what size sd cards they support. the sv-sd50 i have supports up to 1 gigabyte right now and it has a “-” mark showing that more than 1 gigabyte has not been verified. – by cobalt_60

sv-sd100v(10:59pm est mon sep 05 2005) you guys should check out the new sd100v. i got one a few weeks ago and it's amazing. it sounds even better than my sd85 and has an incredible oled screen. it's also got better sound customization, an fm tuner and a recorder built in. – by nonegiven
sv-sd100v(6:33am est wed sep 07 2005) i just won one. panasonic suck! if not for the fact they couldn't support drag and drop, the fu_cken thing can't recognise a 1 gig sd card. apart from that the layout of the buttons weren't thought out too well and using them takes too much effort, as well as the suckfull menu operation. their products by the looks of things above are not user friendly and do not deliver for their expensive price. if this is their latest and greatest, they have still got a long way to go. honestly save your money and go for any other brand. if i had paid for this i would have returned it. – by this sux

1gb sd card(4:08am est wed may 17 2006) i have the previous model the sd-av50, a kingston 1gb card does not work however scandisk 1gb works fine. about the sd-jukeboxv4 software which is bundled with it, it's very slow to upload mp3s to the player as it re-encodes the mp3s for security. i feel this lowers the audio quality. – by keith r.
keith(5:53pm est wed may 24 2006) renaming the mp3s does nothing to the audio quality. it only changes them to the sd1 format which is what the player uses. unless you tell it to change the bitrate (in the options) it doesn't actually re-encode. – by sim

sd jukebox (9:55am est wed may 31 2006) we would all use realplayer if it was that straight forward. you need the panasonic plug in for realplayer which is only available from the original cd, or online with a code but that doesn't work for me. if you can give any more help it would be good, sim… if anyone out there knows how to get mp3's or wma's or any other file format onto this thing so that its playable, please post! – by nik-nak

sim(5:15am est fri jun 09 2006) sim, i know i keep on asking/pleading for your help, and i apologise, i also think panasonic should be paying you a commision (or perhaps i should be!) as you are sorting out their problems! i have done everything that i have been advised by different web pages explaining how to use realplayer in conjunction with sv-sd90 but i still can't get them working together… the jukebox was installed then upgraded to realplayer (with panasonic plugin) and i have a burn/transfer screen which has a pull down box with devices in it… there is my card reader and panasonic device in there but if i transfer songs to the card by my card reader it isn't recognised by the mp3 player, and the panasonic device has no storage detected… if you can think of anything else you did and i haven't done to get your laptop card reader to work with the panasonic/realplayer software, please tell me… yours gratefully, nik nak :) – by nik-nak

nik-nak(9:40pm est sat jun 10 2006) i don't know why it isn't working for you. i use it just fine with my sd100v so it should work for you. don't select the card reader from the drop down menu, select the panasonic device. when you look at the sd card in windows explorer does it show the songs in .sa1 format? also, did you try formatting the card using real player (there's an option under configure device)? also, try checking the option to always convert tracks and choose mp3 or aac and pick a bitrate. – by sim
sim(10:25am est mon jun 12 2006) i tried everything! no joy… if i select the panasonic device in the drop down menu it just constantly tells me there is no storage detected. as soon as i plug the mp3 player into the computer (or the card into card reader, panasonic or other) it pops up a window with the sd audio folder in it, and inside that are the music files… (sa1) so its recognising it, just not in realplayer/jukebox. i can't format it using realplayer (for the reason above) but got the panasonic sd audio formatting software and used that, but its still not recognised by realplayer. as for the bitrates, until realplayer recognises the storage, the option to format card is greyed out… the player i have is the sv-sd90 and i noticed that when you (in realplayer) install device and get to choose the driver for the player, the sd100v or sv-sd90 are not listed there. which did you install? or did you just leave it as the generic panasonic driver that comes with the cd? thanks for all your help sim, and if anyone else reading this has solved this problem can they give me a clue?
nik-nak(11:59am est tue jun 13 2006) i think that mine's installed as an sd80. you can check the panasonic website since it tells you which ones are supported. have you updated real player since you installed the wma patch from the panasonic website? – by sim
sim(12:55pm est tue jun 13 2006) i installed the wma patch and then clicked on 'check for updates', when the update window pops up, i'm supposed to be able to select drivers, then select the wma plug in to be installed…but that option doesn't appear for me. the only one in drivers is an 'adaptec aspi layer installer'… i have a feeling thats the problem, i didn't realise the update was a 2 part process, and i don't seem to be able to do the 2nd part… i'll keep trying and if inspiration strikes you, give me a shout cos i'm fresh out of ideas! :) thanks again… – by nik-nak
panasonic device(9:20pm est tue jun 13 2006) there isn't another wma update from real. that's changed since panasonic put up their page. just be sure to do whatever other updates there are and be sure that you update to the newest version of real player. i'm running 10.5 right now. you just have to be able to get the panasonic device option to work. it works for me whenever i put an sd card into my computer. perhaps you can try uninstalling everything, cleaning the registry and starting from scratch? download realjukebox software and burn the .iso to a cd, install real jukebox from the cd you burned, update to the newest version of real player, download the wma patch and run it while the jukebox cd is still in your drive, run real player and select the sv-sd80 as your device. – by sim

What is SD-Jukebox?
SD-Jukebox is a Japanese-language utility meant for audio management and playback for SD cards. It allows users to access audio tracks they have stored in their SD cards via their computers and play back the tracks at will. It has a function for playlist creation and editing and also has a feature capable of analyzing tracks and categorizing them into music types or “impressions”. This categorization permits the user to take a specific audio track and ask the program to run through the rest of the tracks on the SD card to discover and retrieve tracks similar to it in order to build a playlist.
Since it also maps track impressions and perceived “liveliness” (partly influenced by tempo), the program is capable of building playlists based on a user-prescribed pattern of song flow: the user may ask it to build a random playlist observing a specific musical pattern in its “impression”, for instance.
The software is compatible with Windows 2000 as well as Windows XP. It supports direct playback for AACs, WMAs and MP3s. It also allows the user to edit the image that represents each track (when album art is turned on in the viewer).
